01.06.2025 - 17.01.2026

Christmas is one of those holidays that people wait for all year. Full of magic, joy, and meetings with loved ones, it allows you to slow down and gain perspective on the surrounding reality. Despite many modern elements, tradition is still the most important, as you will discover when visiting the mountain regions. Caroling, a visit from Santa Claus, Christmas Eve dishes – none of the holidays in the Karkonosze Mountains would take place without these. But that’s not all! What other Christmas symbols can you encounter there? You will find out from the text below.

Delicious Christmas traditions – holiday cuisine

The magic of holidays in the mountains reveals itself in the form of food. Christmas cuisine is a true feast for the senses. Traditional holiday dishes, prepared according to family recipes, fill the interiors with the aroma of spices, baked cakes, and stewed meats. In the mountains, pierogi with cabbage and mushrooms, red borscht with dumplings, carp in aspic, and kutia – a sweet mixture of wheat, poppy seeds, and honey – are especially valued. Together with other Christmas Eve dishes, they create a unique culinary experience that keeps you at the table for many hours.

Christmas gifts

For the youngest, Christmas is primarily about presents. Although in many parts of the world they appear under the tree only at night, in Poland they are usually opened immediately after the Christmas Eve dinner. This refers to the story of the Three Wise Men bringing gifts to baby Jesus. And although today the wise men have been replaced by Santa Claus, the Angel, the Snowflake, and the Star, the essence of the tradition remains the same – it is an expression of care, love, and attention we want to show to our loved ones. At Happy Valley Resort, when booking a Christmas stay, a visit from Santa Claus is also included! Read more: Christmas offer at Happy Valley

Caroling

In some highlander homes, receiving a gift does not depend on the Christmas Eve dinner but on caroling. The repertoire may include various songs describing the birth of Christ, from "Silent Night," through "God is Born," to "Lullaby Jesus." Sometimes the singing is accompanied by piano, violin, or mouth harmonica. Thanks to this, caroling becomes joyful, lively, and full of positive emotions.

Christmas traditions in a modern form

There is no shortage of modern forms of celebration in the mountains. These include various outdoor winter attractions such as skiing, snowboarding, or sleigh rides. Mountain resorts also offer special programs for families with workshops led by an animator (link to our offer) and evenings by the fireplace with live music in the background. With such an atmosphere, Christmas with children becomes an experience that remains in memory for many years.

The colorful highlander culture attracts more and more people wishing to experience the Christmas magic in a unique form. Some choose to spend the holidays at a hotel with catering that ensures a real, home-like atmosphere. One of such places is Happy Valley Resort in Szklarska Poręba. Christmas decorations, the aroma of gingerbread floating in the air, and evening feasting put guests in a magical mood and make the stay at the hotel special. If you want to feel the true spirit of Christmas in a picturesque mountain setting, you won’t find a better place in the entire Karkonosze!
