Mother's Day is a special holiday and a perfect opportunity to thank our moms for everything they have done for us, express respect for their invaluable role in our lives.

Since when is Mother's Day celebrated?

The history of this holiday reaches back to antiquity, when mother goddesses were worshipped. In ancient Greece, a festival was celebrated in honor of the mother goddess Rhea, and in ancient Rome the honor was given to the goddess Cybele, symbolizing fertility and the rebirth of nature.

The beginnings of modern Mother's Day in Europe date only back to the 20th century. In Poland, the first celebrations took place in 1914 in Kraków. Since then, May 26 has permanently entered our calendars as the day when we especially remember our moms.

Interesting facts about traditions in other countries.

  • In Serbia, according to tradition, the mother does not leave the bed until she has given sweets to the children, which is a symbol of care and love.

  • In South Africa, on this day children dress in pink and red, paying tribute to their mother and celebrating her special role.

  • In Japan, special dishes such as omelets or pudding are prepared to honor mothers and express respect.
