House of Carla and Gerhart Hauptmann in Szklarska Poręba
The house of Carl and Gerhart Hauptmann in Szklarska Poręba located only 15 minutes on foot from our property, also in the picturesque Valley of Happiness, formerly called the Valley of Seven Houses, which once was the heart of artists' journeys.
The fame of the later Nobel laureate Gerhart and the charisma of the lesser-known Carl – author of, among others, “The Book of the Spirit of the Mountains” (Rübezahlbuch) attracted representatives of culture and art from all over Europe for years.
In the former writers' house, there is currently a museum presenting mementos of both writers, Karkonosze landscapes by painters associated with the pre-war “Kunstlervereinigung St. Lukas in Ober – Schreiberhau” – “The Artistic Brotherhood of St. Luke in Upper Szklarska Poręba”, as well as a collection of paintings by Wlastimil Hofman and contemporary art, mainly from the association “Nowy Młyn”.
Around the museum stretches a park founded by Carl Hauptmann, revitalized in 2011 – now the “Spirit of the Mountains Park”.
Currently, the museum aims to serve as a cultural center for the local artists' colony.
